We, the executive team at the British Indian Psychiatric Association, are deeply saddened and outraged by the horrific incident that occurred in India on August 9, 2024. The vicious attack and murder of a doctor while on duty is not merely an assault on an individual but a profound violation of human dignity and rights.
In this time of mourning, our hearts go out to the doctor’s family and loved ones. We share in their grief and pain, fully aware that no words can truly alleviate the heavy burden they now bear. Our deepest sympathies also extend to everyone impacted by this unimaginable tragedy.
We stand in solidarity with those calling for justice for the victim and their family. We urge the authorities to carry out a comprehensive and unbiased investigation to ensure that those responsible are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
This tragic event highlights the urgent need to enhance the safety and working conditions for doctors in India. No healthcare professional should ever fear for their life while performing their duty to care for others.
To all BIPA members who are participating in the vigil, stand together against this tragic event. BIPA offers its full support.
Let us come together to foster a safer and more respectful environment for all healthcare workers. Together, we can work towards a future where such atrocities are never repeated and where justice, safety, and respect form the foundation of our society.
