There is strong evidence to show that racial discrimination, interpersonal discrimination, and racial inequalities are all linked to mental health status. Hence promoting programs to promote racial harmony would be beneficial for promoting better mental health. With regard to helping psychiatrists of Indian origin integrate into UK society BIPA has been in the forefront to reduce inequalities in training in psychiatry and has had quite a lot of discussions with the Royal College of psychiatrists. As a result the Royal College has taken this on board and has formed a Diaspora organisation, an Association of psychiatric organisations from different parts of the world including Southeast Asian and African countries. We also aim to support individuals on a one-to-one basis through our mentoring programme.
